Genesis 14: 1-3 prologue to a battle of four kings from the north of Israel. They are about to battle 5 kings in the area of the Dead Sea. Genesis 14: 4-9 the reason for the battle is because the five kings have been servants to the four kings of the north. This war includes the areas of Sodom and Gomorrah. This is where lot lived. Genesis 14: 10-12 the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell into the tar pits and died. Lot was captured. Genesis 14: 13-16 Abram and some of his trained servants went to rescue lot. Abram was successful in retrieving Lot, his servants, and his material goods. Genesis 14: 17-20 the king of Sodom went out to meet Abram. Melchizedek out of Salem also comes to meet Abram. Melchizedek was described as a priest of the most high God and as a king. He blesses Abram. As a result, Abram gives Melchizedek a tenth of all he owned. Genesis 14: 21-24 the king of Sodom says to keep all that he retained from the battle. Abram takes his people only but leaves the spoils as a way of honoring God.
